REVIEW: The Portent #1

The Portent #1
Publisher: Image
Writer: Peter Bergting
Artist: Peter Bergting

[*mild spoilers*] Trying this issue was pure speculation on my part. I am trying to expand my comic horizon and this represents one of those attempts. But, sadly this title just didn't work for me. It is a fantasy title and reads somewhat like a classic "quest" story except I had trouble at points understanding what was happening. In addition, toward the end of the issue the dialogue becomes so contemporary that it jarred me right out of any fantastical sense I may have had. But, by far my biggest gripe with this issue is the fact that it is yet another "chosen one" stories. This is such a played out plotline, especially in fantasy, that I can no longer read these stories with an open mind.

I did not care for this issue. The art is okay, but unremarkable, and the issue failed to grab my attention. Rabid fantasy fans may get something out of this issue, but I did not.

My Verdict: 4/10
